Diversity

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (DEI Committee)

Establishment: At the June 17, 2020 Board of Directors Meeting, the directors approved the creation of the President’s Diversity Advisory Group (DAG) and nominated 7 members to serve.

Charge:To recommend, as they are developed, actions the Association should take to support and promote diversity both within the Association and the community.

Duration: The DAG’s charge shall end at the end of 2020 unless the DAG requests the 2021 Board of Directors consider the extension of the DAG to the following year.

Suggested Topics of Investigation: The following topics are suggested to the DAG for consideration and investigation, but the DAG is given a clean slate from which to start.

  • Establishing dialogue between the association and law enforcement
  • Investigate barriers to diversity in entering real estate as a career. Would a real estate program at Ball High, GC or COM help this?  How could the association support those efforts?
  • Consider promoting and or offering for free (to members) courses such as “At Home with Diversity”.

Transformation and Continuation: In January of 2021, the Board of Directors voted to elevate the Diversity Advisory Group to a permanent standing committee of the association under the new name Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (DEI Committee).

GAR endorses and strives to achieve the goals in our National Association’s statement:
The National Association of REALTORS® represents more than 1.4 million REALTORS® in diverse communities across the country. NAR staff fosters a culture where diversity and inclusion are integrated into each of our five core values.

Through inclusive collaboration and mutual respect for our colleagues, we focus on the principles that matter to the organization and drive how we engage each other to reach our common goals. We fully embrace perspectives from all walks of life—regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, national origin, socioeconomic status, political affiliation or any other qualities by which we may define ourselves.

We commit to bringing out the best in ourselves, uncovering our hidden talents, and celebrating differences in our day-to-day interactions. These beliefs are essential as we serve our members who help fulfill the dream of home and property ownership in America.
